On a persimmon wood, look closely at the neck, the narrow part where the head meets the shaft. Cracks there can hide under the whipping, the thread wrapped around it. Check that the face insert and the sole plate sit tight and flush, with their screws in place. Light finish wear is normal on a wood that’s been played. A crack, bare wood on the face, or a loose insert or plate is worth asking about.
